Overview

Description

Universities Research Association, Inc. (URA) and Fermilab annually present the URA outstanding doctoral thesis award for work conducted at Fermilab or in collaboration with Fermilab scientists. This award is given yearly at the Fermilab Annual Users Meeting. Selections will be made by the Thesis Awards Committee. Each thesis is judged on clarity of presentation, originality, and physics content. The recipient of the award receives a certificate of recognition and a check for $4,000.

Eligibilty

To qualify, the thesis must have been submitted as partial fulfillment of the Ph.D. requirements, be written in English, and must have been submitted in electronic form to the Fermilab Publications Office in accordance with Fermilab policy.

Nomination

Nominations must be submitted to the chair of the URA Graduate Thesis Committee and include at least two letters supporting the merits of the thesis being nominated. At least one letter should be from a member of the thesis committee of the Ph.D. granting institution and, for work carried out in collaboration with Fermilab scientists, at least one of the letters should come from one of those scientists.

Selection

Selection will be made by the Thesis Awards Committee. Each thesis will be judged on clarity of presentation, originality and physics content. To qualify, the thesis must have been submitted as partial fulfillment of the Ph.D. requirements in the 2016 calendar year, be written in English, and it must have been submitted in electronic form to the Fermilab Publications Office in accordance with Fermilab policy.
